60 Years On (Class of 1965–1969)
15 March 2025
On Friday, March 14, we had the honour of hosting around 50 Old Collegians from the Class of 1965–1969 and their partners for a memorable Founders’ Day and 60 Years On reunion. The Founders’ Day Assembly left a lasting impression on our Old Boys, particularly Noah Fanene’s (Year 13) captivating Address to a Haggis. David Livesey, a former member of the 1969 1st XI, presented this year’s 1st XI cricket caps. Our guests enjoyed seeing the talent and diversity of our students, and remarked on how different it now is, especially now we are co-ed. It was great to have Euan Hilson and Graham Dowling (OC’s 1954) presenting their fathers’ (G.A.M. Hilson and Henry Dowling) awards to our students.
Our Old Collegians thoroughly enjoyed watching the Highland Games, a vibrant event featuring noise, colour, chants, games, songs, and House spirit. The day concluded with a spectacular performance by the Pipe Band.
Friday evening’s Cocktail Party brought together around 60 guests for a reunion, filled with shared stories and laughter. Former staff members John and Jill Irving, along with Rex Livingstone, were also in attendance. On the College Tour, our Old Collegians were amazed by the modern facilities and opportunities now available to our students.
The formal dinner on Saturday night was another highlight, featuring another fantastic Address to a Haggis. Special thanks to Mike Tait, who travelled from Budapest, Burton Shipley, and Pete Calder for their help with this part of the evening. Lee Spear entertained as the witty MC, Bryan Aitken offered a Toast to Absent Friends, and Philip Crothall led the Grace. Grant Murdoch delivered a heartfelt Toast to the College. It was great to welcome Rector Mark Wilson, and his wife, Judi, as our special guests, to their first Old Collegians reunion.
Thank you, as always, to Catering Manager Russell Gray and his team. The weekend was a delightful journey down memory lane for our guests, and a great time was had by all who attended.
