A Thousand Ships

By Natalie Haynes

I thought I had a good understanding of the story of Troy. To my shame, I realise it hadn’t occurred to me to think about it from the perspective of the women. Their stories are powerful and easy to connect with. The chapter on Gaia couldn’t be more relevant to us today. I find my thoughts often return to this book and I look forward to rereading it.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who is a classicist, so I knew the story had been treated with respect. It was a real joy reading this much-loved story with fresh eyes. If you enjoy Greek mythology or you are looking for a great read, give it a go.
