Rich Dad Poor Dad

This was the first finance book that I read that I enjoyed from cover to cover. Robert structures the book from the view point of his childhood self and his financial literacy education. He records his experiences between his two mentors, a rich dad and a poor dad. He talks about the ideas and methods of the wealthy via his experiences and matched it to the life and realities of both dads. For example, both dads recommended a good education. However, one dad focused on the qualification of the degree, whereas the other focused on the use of knowledge behind it.
As an accountant, I particularly enjoyed the use and ideas of financial statements. Robert has some unique and perception changing insights of how the wealthy make use of their cashflow. This is further illustrated in the game Cashflow which is available in board game form as well as online. It has also inspired me to think beyond the traditional norm of earning, spending, and savings. The ideas are practical and applicable to how this world revolves around the movements of wealth and how to take advantage of it. It is so much more than a “how-to-get-rich” approach. I thoroughly recommend this book and it will be a great investment into both you and your family’s future. In the words of the famous Warren Buffet:
“Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
