Pipe Band

Formed in 1919 the Pipe Band is an integral part of the College’s heritage and Scottish tradition and remains an important part of the fabric of St Andrew’s. In 2013 the St Andrew's College Pipe Band was crowned world champions in the Juvenile grade at the World Pipe Championships in Glasgow, Scotland – an outstanding achievement. The Pipe Band is consistently New Zealand's best at school level. At the 2007 World Championships if finished third, and was fifth in the same event in 2010.

Membership of our internationally-renowned Pipe Band is a special opportunity open to all students at the College, including Preparatory School students.

The skirl of the pipes is an innate part of daily life at the College. At assemblies, Highland Games, prizegiving and at many other special occasions you will appreciate the sound. It is a sound that will evoke powerful emotions and, after you leave St Andrew’s, become a treasured reminder of your years here.

Each year, the players stage a spectacular public concert called ‘StAC Attack’. This involves over 100 band members – from the very youngest to the very oldest – as well as a variety of supporting musicians and dancers. StAC Attack is a feast for the senses that leaves audiences stunned at the level of talent possessed by such young performers.

The College offers scholarships to talented pipers and drummers from other schools to assist with their transition to St Andrew’s. For further information, please click here.
