Students will support studio productions, filmmaking and manage technical and production support for a wide range of events.
The Academy encourages the art of performance on camera and stage, of directing and producing TV shows and films, managing technical roles in the studio, shooting and editing a film, crewing an outside broadcast, and providing technical support for College productions, Dance Revue, Chapel, assemblies and other events. The group also runs the College’s Film Fest and the annual Prizegiving show at Horncastle Arena.
During the after-school sessions students may record a musical group, learn about sound or lighting, learn how to direct, or practice editing.
The studio is open to students of the Television and Film Academy at lunchtimes. The group also has before and after school responsibilities.
St Andrew’s College has the only professional production studio and control room complex in a New Zealand Secondary School. It is well equipped with cameras, lights, editing equipment and a 32-channel sound desk.
This creative space joins together multiple communication platforms, which are used by the entire College for content creation. The studio allows students who are passionate about the arts or who have a special interest in the practical or technical side of production to express their creativity. Many St Andrew’s students, whose passion for TV performance and production was sparked at the College, have gone on to great things within the industry in New Zealand and overseas.
