Ballet Company Curriculum

The Ballet Programme

Joining the elite ‘Ballet Company’ is the pinnacle of a dancer’s experience at St Andrew’s College. Becoming one of the ‘senior’ dancers, in Years 12–13, is an opportunity to reach the highest goals in student training and to represent oneself as a role-model to our junior students who aspire to join the Company in the future.

The ‘Company’ follows on from the Years 9–11 ‘Ballet and Dance Studies’ subject and offers four plus hours of training per week. Dancers experience high-level tuition across the genres and complete their examination series. In Year 12, dancers take the Advanced Diploma Examination – a qualification exam entitling successful candidates the use of ‘letters’ after their name. In Year 13 dancers take their final Ballet examination – called the Company Diploma, and may also take their Solo Performance Diploma if eligible. In both years the dancers enjoy gaining Level 2 and 3 NCEA Dance credits – and can achieve their University Entrance in Dance.

Ballet Academy Diploma

Year 13 dancers, having completed the five-year course (if commencing in Year 9), graduate with our St Andrew’s College Ballet Academy Diploma. Those with fewer years due to entering later, may apply for cross-credits from prior study, or alternatively gain the Ballet Academy Certificate.
