Tennis

Tēnehi

St Andrew’s College has a well-resourced tennis programme, and is known as a strong performing ‘tennis school’, which continues to win numerous South Island and National titles.

Tennis is open to players of all levels of ability, with coaching made available to everyone as part of the programme.

Teams are entered in the Wednesday sport competitions in Terms 1 and 4. Players also compete in various interschool fixtures during these terms at junior and senior level. A number of our players also compete at regional, South Island and national levels.

The potential exists for elite players, who meet stringent criteria, to participate in our Elite Sports Studies Course (Years 9–10) and High Performance Sports Programme (Years 11–13).

Facilities

We have great facilities, with three new Plexipave type courts installed in 2017, and access to local club courts nearby. For those who desire additional coaching at the higher level, this can be organised on a one-on-one basis.

Benefits

Tennis has many benefits and is known as a lifetime sport. It can be played right throughout the ages and all year round. At St Andrew’s College, we are committed to help develop these lifetime skills across all levels, from absolute beginners through to elite players. To ensure this happens we provide a staff member to mentor every team on a Wednesday.

Successes

2021 Successes:

  • Winner NZSS Mixed Team;
  • Winner CPSSA Boys.

In 2020, The Preparatory Boys’ A and Girls’ A tennis teams did extremely well at the Canterbury Primary Schools’ Tennis Tournament, with both teams retaining the titles they won in 2019.
